Nose Up or Nose Down?

Updated: Jan 29, 2021

Here in Portugal, we are once again “settling” into a possibly very long government-mandated confinement, and pastoring LIFE church from home.

I don't know about you, but I frequently have to check my attitude. Attitude is defined as: "A settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person's behavior".

If I don't carefully manage my attitude and reign it into alignment with the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), it spirals quickly out of control. The truth is we choose our attitude.

A few months ago, I heard an interesting illustration in an online church message. In aviation, there is an instrument that indicates the attitude of the plane:

  • nose up attitude

  • level attitude

  • nose down attitude

The nose down attitude for too long will cause a crash. So to avoid that, we must begin with our mind -- capture our thoughts to obey Christ and glorify Jesus.

Our attitude will

  • reflect what is in our heart/what we allow to enter our heart

  • influence our words/tone of voice

  • determine our actions/reactions

What is your attitude like today?

Take some time to talk to Jesus about it.
