A Devotion: The T.A.C.O.S. Way of Prayer

This graphic is amusing, but it is a representation of an action and an acronym reminding us to pray. Prayer is a powerful way to connect with God; sometimes, a simple framework can help us focus our thoughts and hearts. Let’s explore prayer through the lens of something we all love—TACOS!

T - Thanksgiving

Start your prayer with gratitude. Reflect on the blessings God has poured into your life, both big and small."Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever." (Psalm 107:1)

Take a moment to thank God for His provision, love, and faithfulness. Gratitude opens our hearts to see His work in our lives.

A - Adoration

Next, offer adoration to God. Praise Him for who He is—His holiness, power, and grace."Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom." (Psalm 145:3)

This is about honoring God’s character and acknowledging His majesty.

C - Confession

Confession brings healing and restoration. Be honest with God about your sins and shortcomings."If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins." (1 John 1:9)

Lay your heart bare before God, trusting in His mercy and forgiveness.

O - Others

Pray for the needs of those around you—your family, friends, community, and the world."I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people." (1 Timothy 2:1)

Interceding for others reflects God’s love and compassion flowing through us.

S - Self

Finally, bring your personal requests to God. Share your hopes, struggles, and desires."Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)

God delights in hearing the cries of His children and providing for their needs.

Closing Thought:

The T.A.C.O.S. prayer model is more than just a fun acronym—it’s a way to structure your time with God in a balanced and meaningful way. Like the layers of a delicious taco, each component builds a flavorful and fulfilling experience of communion with Him.

So next time you see a taco, let it remind you to take a moment to pray. Whether you’re giving thanks, offering praise, confessing, interceding, or presenting your own needs, God delights in meeting you right where you are.

Let’s pray:Lord, thank You for who You are and all You’ve done. I adore You and confess my need for Your grace. I lift up those around me, and I bring my own heart to You, trusting in Your love. Amen.

Now go and T.A.C.O.S. your day with prayer!
